The Aeropress is a superstar when it comes to single-serve coffee brewing. Whether you’re out camping or enjoying a lazy day at home, it’s a fun and fuss-free way to make a quick, flavour-packed cup with a beautiful, clean, full-bodied finish. Here’s how to brew like a pro:
Method
- Insert the plunger into the brewing chamber up to the number 4, then flip the Aeropress upside down (opening facing up).
- Place a paper filter into the cap and rinse it with hot water. (This removes any papery taste.)
- Add 16g (about 4 heaped teaspoons) of medium-ground coffee to the brew chamber.
- Pour in hot water (96ºC) until the chamber is half full, then give it a quick stir.
- Top up with water until it’s about 1cm from the top (roughly 220mL total).
- Screw the filter cap onto the chamber and let it brew for 1.5 minutes.
- Grasp the Aeropress firmly, flip it over onto your favourite mug, and press the plunger down slowly and steadily (over around 15 seconds).
- Once you hear a gentle hiss, stop pressing and your coffee is ready to enjoy.
- TIP - use the coffee grounds in your garden as they make great fertiliser!
Pro Tips
- Rinse smart: Rinse the filter by placing the cap on your mug and running hot water through it. This preheats your mug and preps the filter in one go.
- Brewing for more? Double the coffee grounds and dilute with hot water after pressing.
- Clean-up hack: After brewing, remove the cap, pop out the coffee puck by pressing the plunger quickly, and rinse with hot water.
