Cal is relatively new to the coffee & hospitality world, joining Little Owl in an official capacity in October 2020.

Prior to this however, Cal has been involved in the hospitality industry indirectly over the last 10 years assisting his wife Jess behind the scenes as joint owner’s of Jessie’s Cafe, which is located next door to Little Owl.

A CPA qualified accountant by profession, Cal worked the first 10 years of his professional life in the corporate world for a mining company. Starting off as the Company Accountant, Cal progressed to the CFO position after 5 years, a position which he then held for a further 5 years.

In constant discussion with his father-in-law (and Little Owl owner) Tony over a number of years, they finally agreed the time was right for Cal to join the dark side and move over to the exciting and quickly expanding world of coffee.

Using his experience and varying skillset gained at senior management level in the corporate world, combined with his intricate knowledge of running a cafe through involvement with Jessie’s Cafe, Cal had an immediate impact at Little Owl helping not only strengthen the internal controls, processes and standards, but also being able to assist our cafe wholesale partners with advice on cafe setup, workflow, equipment and recommended suppliers.

Starting a little family of his own, Cal has 2 young boys that are both regulars to the Little Owl office on a weekly basis. He loves his craft beer (living down at Otherside Brewery most weekends) as well as going to the gym and visiting other cafe’s gaining idea’s to implement at both Little Owl and Jessie’s Cafe from like-minded and driven business owner’s.

First and foremost, he loves spending time with his family – a value which we believe is instilled in all Little Owl team members, and one we try and replicate here at the Owl factory with our ‘Owl Fam’.
